In a remarkable display of musical prowess and talent, two students from the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) have left an indelible mark on the global stage. Kaisser Joseph A. Talan, a 3rd year BS Civil Engineering student, and John Patrick Borja, a 3rd year BSEd Filipino student, both members of Coro Bikolano, represented the Philippines and the sole Bicolano group at the prestigious 2023 Busan Choraln Festival and Competition.

Held at the iconic Busan Cinema Center in Busan, South Korea, from October 17 to 21, 2023, the event brought together world-class choirs and vocal talents from around the globe. UNC’s Talan and Borja, along with their fellow Coro Bikolano members, took the stage in a celebration of music, culture, and unity.

The Filipino contingent showcased their exceptional vocal abilities, participating in both pop and classical categories during the competition. Their dedication, hard work, and collaborative efforts paid off when they were awarded not just one but two gold diplomas. The prestigious recognitions were granted in the categories of “Gold Diploma

• Pop and Acappella Category” and “Gold Diploma – Classical Mixed and Equal Category.” This outstanding achievement serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment and talent of Talan, Borja, and their team, guided by the expert conductor, Mr. Ricky A. Solero.

Coro Bikolano wasn’t the only Filipino choir group to shine at the festival. They were joined by other esteemed Filipino ensembles, including City of Voices Chamber Singers, De La Salle University Chorale, DYCI Dagalak, Voci di Gesù Chamber Singers, Voices of the South Children’s Choir – VSCC, and Eastern Chamber Singers. Together, they showcased the Philippines’ rich musical heritage and talent on an international Platform.

As the members of Coro Bikolano proudly proclaim, “Tanog Bikolnon, Tatak Bikolnon!” this achievement serves as a source of pride for the entire University of Nueva Caceres, highlighting that UNC’s talents transcend the boundaries of their campus and resonate on the global stage. It’s a momentous occasion where UNCean talents have proven their ability to not only conquer local stages but also excel in international engagements and competitions.
