Art and Advocacy Shine at UNC 77th Commencement Exercises

Naga City, June 27, 2025 – The 77th Commencement Exercises of the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC), held on June 27, 2025, marked not only a celebration of academic achievement but also a moment of artistic and cultural significance with the ceremonial turnover of three original artworks by missionary visual artist and Philippine Navy Reservist, J02 Kristine Ann Soguilon-Lim PN(Res).

Invited by this year’s Commencement Speaker, Mr. Joseph Jerome T. Francia, First Vice President and Head of International Operations of GMA Network, Inc., Soguilon-Lim delivered a message of inspiration grounded in creativity, patriotism, and purpose. Her triptych symbolized the strength, resilience, and global readiness of the UNC Class of 2025, aligned with the ceremony’s theme: “UNC Graduates: Future Ready, Work Ready in an Interconnected World.”

“The turnover is not merely the handover of a work of art—it is a symbol of inspiration, resilience, and the limitless potential that each graduate holds,” Soguilon-Lim said during the event. She emphasized that in today’s complex world, creativity, innovation, and global awareness are vital in shaping visionary and compassionate leaders.

Mr. Francia, a fellow Philippine Navy Reservist and a proud alumnus of UNC, invited Soguilon-Lim to contribute to the occasion. Their shared advocacy for service, culture, and community engagement brought a deeper layer of meaning to the ceremony. The artworks now serve as a permanent visual reminder on campus of the university’s commitment to excellence, culture, and global citizenship.

The artworks, each framed at 15.5 x 15.5 inches, were formally turned over to UNC President Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya and the university community during the commencement rites.

UNC continues to foster partnerships with artists, professionals, and leaders who represent the values of service and lifelong learning. As the graduates of 2025 take their next steps into a rapidly changing world, they do so inspired by legacy, art, and purpose.
